    "Statistical laws in genome evolution"

A genome increases its complexity by adding or expanding gene families, which are its elementary functional modules. Families are combined and arranged over evolutionary times, shaping the functional landscape accessible to a species according to its environment and lifestyle. Focusing on data from 1000 sequenced genomes, this seminar will describe some notable "laws" emerging from both the cross-species and the single genome statistics of extant gene families, and some models which may help rationalize these laws.
