A bit about our speaker: David works at the interface of synthetic biology and physical biology, engineering cells to build multicellular structures and using them to understand how collective behaviors emerge. His graduate work in Ingmar Riedel-Kruse's lab at Stanford produced a synthetic cell-cell adhesion toolbox for bacteria, which lets researchers program E. coli to stick together and self-assemble into defined multicellular patterns and shapes. He then did postdoctoral work with Uri Alon at the Weizmann Institute of Science, applying systems biology approaches to how tissues and physiological circuits are organized and regulated. He recently joined the Laufer Center here at Stony Brook.
