IRACDA Postdoctoral Associate Spotlight: Wilson Nieves Vasquez
Wilson Nieves Vasquez
IRACDA Postdoctoral Scholar, Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Stony Brook University.
We congratulate Wilson Nieves-Vásquez, an IRACDA Postdoctoral Scholar at the Laufer Center and the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Stony Brook University, where he works in Professor Lina Carlini’s lab.
Wilson earned his Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of California, San Francisco, where he conducted his doctoral research in the Mullins Lab. His work focused on reconstituting actin cytoskeletal systems to understand how Capping Protein, CARMIL, and related regulators control cell motility, integrating advanced protein biochemistry, microscopy, and quantitative modeling to explore the emergent behaviors of molecular assemblies.
At the Laufer Center, Wilson’s research explores how the cytoskeleton influences mitochondrial organization and function, with the goal of uncovering how dynamic protein networks regulate energy distribution, molecular organization, and overall cellular health.
As part of the IRACDA program, Wilson is also developing innovative, inquiry-based teaching approaches and is committed to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
