Chris Helenek has received a predoctoral fellowship from the New York Consortium for Interdisciplinary Training in Kidney, Urological, & Hematological Research (KUHR). In his research mentored by Gábor Balázsi, Chris uses synthetic gene circuits to decipher how the expression levels of relevant proteins affect cells originating from patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), an aging-related disease with incidence sharply increasing over the age of 50 and affecting practically all men by the time they turn 90.
